Dining With Doc Meeting Updates

On November 13th, members of the TJ community came together with Dr. Bonitatibus in our monthly “Dining with Doc” meeting to discuss items of importance for the school community. These issues included: communication between the administration and the student body, discretion when pulling students out of class, consistent weighting in the grade book between academic teams, and renaming of commons and hallways.

Challenge Success

October 17th, 2018

Last month, a team of students, parents, teachers, and administrators visited the Challenge Success program conference at Stanford to find out more about how we can think about making TJ a healthier learning environment. As part of the conference, the lead team participated in two coaching sessions and then each team member was able to attend three workshop sessions of their choice. Session topics included grading improvement strategies, student advocacy, peer support, and workload balancing.

Money Wars Amendments

September 16th, 2018

Three weeks ago, the sponsors of student leadership raised concerns over the annual Money Wars competition that takes place during homecoming week. Many expressed the sentiment that language used to fundraise has become more misleading in recent years, which could tarnish the school reputation if someone who donated feels misled. In addition, they were worried that online fundraising and other tactics are not well regulated or restricted in any way to keep students safe and comply with FCPS regulations. We were told that the event would not proceed without significant changes to the structure of the competition.
